A concert in a natural amphitheatre, an international cricket match under lights, New Zealand’s largest horse racing carnival, and wine and food festivals are but a few of the many fabulous events that grace the region’s events calendar.
Hawke’s Bay is known as the food and wine destination of New Zealand, this reputation is enhanced with events such as Harvest Hawke’s Bay, a celebration of the region’s wine and food. Held in February, this stunning weekend in beautiful Hawke’s Bay will give you a taste of what the wineries have to offer whilst being entertained in all sorts of ways. Enjoy the traditional kiwi summer lifestyle – live music, brews and BBQ’s all on hand with the Blues, Brews and BBQ’s festival. What more could you want with various stalls of brews, cider, wines and a selection of superb food. A family picnic day encompassing the best of Hawke’s Bay wine, food, artists, crafts and music – WETA Wine and Food Festival held in Central Hawke’s Bay takes place in mid February or dine with 700 other guests at the CJ Pask Great Long Lunch along Marine Parade in early March. A new event to tantalize your taste buds is now at the end of April with local food and wine producers all in the one location at Gourmet Experience Hawke’s Bay.
Experience the natural outdoor concert venues at one of Hawke’s Bay’s many wineries, with events such as The Mission Concert, Church Road Jazz Concert or Black Barn’s concert series. A fantastic way to enjoy the summer with friends, soaking up the atmosphere with great wine and fantastic entertainment. Escape and enjoy the landscape of Hawke’s Bay while exploring very different terrain on this 3 day guided walk – the Sea, Sky and Bush Walk. Take in the awesome coastline, river lands and natural bush. The walk takes place in Waipukurau in early March.
Art and cultural events are held throughout the year and one of the most popular events is the Brebner Print Art Deco Weekend in February, which revives the glamour, glitz and style of the 1930s. Vintage cars, jazz concerts, dancing, wining and dining, the costumes, the atmosphere all create a unique and unforgettable experience, that you will find no where else in New Zealand. Bluewater Hotel Deco Decanted is another scheduled weekend of Art Deco entertainment held in July to accommodate the growing popularity of this event.
The highlight of the racing calendar in Hawke’s Bay is the Kelt Capital Stakes, held annually in October. Action guaranteed, both on and off the track with fillies and colts of the two legged variety competing in the Fashions in the Field, this is a must attend event. New Zealand’s largest horse racing carnival – Horse of the Year is the largest equestrian event in the Southern Hemisphere, held in Hawke’s Bay each year in March, it is a popular event on the event’s calendar.
